Yesterday during the Playstation 5 reveal event Treyarch announced that there would be an Open Alpha for Black Ops Cold War exclusive to Playstation 4. The alpha begins September 18th and ends September 20th at 10 AM PDT. A Playstation+ Subscription is NOT required to participate. You simply need to own a Playstation 4, and download the alpha for Black Ops Cold War, which is now LIVE for pre-loading! The expected download size is 25 GB. Some users have reported that the Playstation store is down, but I’m sure that will clear up in time for launch.

Note: All Weapons, Perks, and other parts of the Black Ops Cold War experience mentioned below are unlocked for everyone from level 1.

They also said they’d provide more information on the open alpha this morning, and they did! Here’s what we learned.

  • Combined Arms: Domination – 12v12

If you were unaware, Combined Arms is the new Call of Duty game mode coming to Black Ops Cold War. It will be a 12v12 playlist on larger maps that include vehicles. This weekend’s version will include snowmobiles, tanks, wakerunners, gunboats, and more according to Activision. This seems to be Treyarch’s take on the Ground War mode that was introduced to the COD franchise with Modern Warfare 2019. We have further details on this game mode and everything else you need to know about Black Ops Cold War here.

Primary Weapons

Treyarch also was kind enough to provide fans with a list of weapons that will be available during the Open Alpha for Black Ops Cold War. Here’s what you can expect to be fragging with this weekend!

Assault rifles

  • XM4 (Commando)
  • Krig 6 (AK5)
  • AK-47

Snipers

  • LW3 Tundra
  • Pelington 703 (R700)

It’s worth noting they can always add to this list, and we will be sure to update you if they do. Remember this is a play test, so they want to get as many statistics as they can from it.

Secondary Weapons

Secondary Weapons in Cold War include shotguns, which is a stark change from how Modern Warfare currently classifies shotguns.

Pistols

  • 1911
  • Diamatti (Raficca)

Shotguns

  • Hauer 77 (Pump Action)
  • Gallo SA12 (SPAS-12, Semi-Auto)

There currently is only one launcher in this build of Black Ops Cold War, which is the Cigma 2.

Equipment

Tacticals

  • Smoke and Stun Grenades

Lethals

  • Frag Grenades and C4

This obviously is not all that will be in the final version of the new Call of Duty title, however, this is all we will have access to this weekend for the Open Alpha.
